How to find a Persian-speaking lawyer in the Netherlands

Dutch law is complex, and explaining a sensitive situation in your own language makes a real difference. Here's how to find and work with a Persian-speaking lawyer (advocaat) in the Netherlands.

When you need a lawyer

The most common areas where Persian speakers seek help:

  • Immigration & asylum β€” residence permits, appeals against IND decisions, family reunification, naturalisation.
  • Family law β€” divorce, custody, and matters involving both Dutch and Iranian law.
  • Employment β€” dismissal, contracts, and disputes with an employer.
  • Contracts & business β€” starting a company, agreements, and debt.

Subsidised legal aid (toevoeging)

If your income is below a threshold, you may qualify for gesubsidieerde rechtsbijstand through the Raad voor Rechtsbijstand. You pay a reduced personal contribution (eigen bijdrage) and the government covers the rest. A lawyer can apply for this on your behalf β€” ask about it at your first meeting.

How to prepare

  • Bring every relevant document (letters from the IND, contracts, court papers).
  • Note key dates β€” many procedures have strict deadlines.
  • Write down your questions in advance.
